French Translation

Web-Translations provide French translation and localisation services and each project is overseen by a dedicated, French speaking Project Manager.  Whether you want to translate to, or from, French or English or any other of the 140 languages we work with, all our translators are thoroughly vetted, qualified freelance professionals with a minimum of three years' experience.  As an extra assurance of quality, all of our French translators are mother tongue speakers who live in-country.

Web-Translations have translated into, or from, French for clients such as the law firm, Savills, retail specialists Timberland and Emerald Insight, who publish journals in management, library and information services, engineering, applied sciences and technology.  Cosmic Solutions, of the commerce and retail sector, chose Web-Translations to localise their entire website into French.  With such experience, you can be assured that, no matter the size or type of translation required, Web-Translations can offer you a comprehensive service.

  • With projects over 10,000 words, prices can be reduced by up to 40%.
  • All employees and translators are bound by confidentiality and corporate nondisclosure agreements.
  • We work within a documented quality procedure born from experience.

Glossaries and terminology

Do you have a large or ongoing translation project?  Web-Translations can manage your language asset to ensure;

  • all terminology is kept consistent throughout your literature,
  • you never pay for the same sentence to be translated twice,
  • that all future French translation projects are also discounted ,owing to the build up of your Translation Memory.

Where necessary, we can collaborate with your distributors and partners to ensure that the correct terminology is used and that the content is kept in your best interest.

What is the subject matter and whom are you targeting?

At Web-Translations, the first thing we do when presented with a new project is consider the nature of the text to be translated.  Is it a marketing document that needs to be translated by someone with a little linguistic flair in order to make your product stand out?  Is it a medical text that must be an exact translation?  In this case we would source one of our specialist medical translators who have access to all the necessary terminology glossaries and who fully understand the subject matter.  Is it a technical text that, again, would require translating by someone who has worked in the industry and is comfortable with many erudite terms and will not just translate things literally, which could result in a poor quality translation?

About the French Language

Approximately 350 million people speak French around the world as either native speakers or as second language learners.  The three main standards of the French language are Parisian (Standard) French, Standard Canadian French (Quテゥbecois), and a more neutral International French (IF) which is used mainly in the media. IF is a version of French marked by a much greater use of archaic vocabulary which is no longer contemporary in metropolitan France.

French is a Romance language which stems originally from Roman Latin, but it is also influenced by the Celtic and Germanic languages which succeeded the Roman Empire as a result of the Frankish invasions at the beginning of the Dark Ages.  French is an official language in 31 countries, as well as being the official language of the united Nations, so a text translated into French will have a far reaching audience.  However, depending on your target audience, there are around thirty different French dialects from Cajun, Lao and Indian French to Jersey Legal French!

A final thing to note when it comes to French translations is that English text, when translated into French, expands by approximately 15 - 20% and French to English translations contract by around 10 - 15%.
