Simplified Chinese
For each Chinese translation, you must ensure that you use the correct character set. Simplified Chinese is used throughout mainland China, Malaysia and Singapore and the simplified character set is an attempt by the government of the People's Republic of China to promote literacy.
The character set is based on popular cursive (caoshu) forms embodying graphic or phonetic simplifications of the traditional forms that were used in printed text for over a thousand years. Caoshu, literally translated, means Grass script and the Chinese character for grass also means loose and sketchy. The simplified characters originated during the Han Dynasty and are easier and faster to write, though harder to read.
Having selected the most appropriate character set, there a few more things to note when using Chinese. Colours play an important role in Chinese society and, as such, red, black and white have strong connotations which must be carefully considered when publishing either on, or offline.
- Red is synonymous with positive things such as wealth, happiness and fame.
- Black conjures up images of sadness, evil and disaster.
- White is the harmony, moderation and purity of the middle ground between black and red.
Fear not, however, as our service promise will ensure that you have one point of contact for all of your Chinese translation requirements ensuring your translation will be culturally sensitive, accurate and of minimal stress to you.
