Cadbury Schweppes Case Study
Cadbury Schweppes is the world’s largest confectionery company, employing over 60,000 people and producing confectionary and beverages in almost every country across the globe.
Cadbury Schweppes is organised into four business segments or regions and six global functions. Each region is focused on commercial operations in its geographical and product area and also maintains teams from each of the six functions. Employee satisfaction and motivation levels are a key part of Cadbury Schweppes’ success.
Web-Translations translated key employee surveys and other HR documents and made regular updates to the Cadbury Schweppes global intranet site. In this way Web-Translations helped Cadbury Schweppes to successfully communicate its values to a global workforce.
The Challenge
- To translate regional variations of key HR surveys into 31 languages, within 5 days
- To communicate with Cadbury Schweppes’ global workforce via a single website
- To create translations which reflected each region’s culture and working environment
The Solution
- Pre-project research to identify qualified web translators, arrange client approval for these translators based on test pieces, and reserve the time of the approved translators so that the project could start on time
- The coordination of 62 translators by one dedicated project manager
- The use of selected existing client translations to maintain consistency and speed up translation timescales
- Terminology updates to each web translator when changes were applied to maintain uniformity
The Results
- Translation of the two key documents into 31 languages within 4 days
- Further translation of HR documentation for the European and American regions
- Creation of an internal HR site for measuring employee satisfaction and wellbeing, tailored to each region and function, yet reflecting Cadburys Schweppes’ global values
- Continued collaboration with Cadbury Schweppes on further translation projects
